Cherry: A controversial candy flavor…
Basically a throw-in when I ordered 3 sets of Maynards candies, I was skeptical of their Sour Cherry Blasters. Cherry is a polarizing flavor, for understandable reasons.
Often times, cherry candies come off tasting more like cough syrup than an actual sweet. Other times, they taste like nothing. I’ve had people tell me they universally hate all cherry-flavored things. While extreme, I get it.
However, leave it to Maynards to make one of the best cherry candies yet – and really commit to it. There is only one flavor in this pack: cherry.
How they look and taste:
Sour Cherry Blasters are a good mix of tart and sweet. As advertised, these are pretty sour, so for those looking for a tamer cherry flavor, I would stay away. However, sour lovers will love how these taste. It really gives you everything you could want in a single gummy candy.
The candies are quarter-sized and attempt to mimic the look of real cherries. It’s not the best looking two-tone, but it does enough to let you know what you are eating. Just as with Maynards Fuzzy Peaches, the bigger sized candy makes for a better eating experience. You feel that you are getting your money’s worth with these (not to mention the fact that the bag they come in is enormous). The flavor is delicious, but not overpowering. There’s not much red residue that will be left on your tongue, so perhaps it’s not heavy on the artificial flavors.
If cherry is your favorite flavor when it comes to various other gummy candies (do you only each the red Sour Patch Kids?), I would highly recommend the Sour Cherry Blasters. Otherwise, you may get bored with the fact that it is one flavor.
To each his own, but for me, this is a wonderful tasting candy. An OMG.
