The Argentine tango is notoriously one of the most difficult dances to pull off, but actress Rachel Stevens danced it effortlessly in 2008, making the routine look typically easy. She and Simone managed to score 39 out of 40 in the semi-final, solidifying her place in the final where she finished as runner-up.
Louis Smith & Flavia Cacace’s Showdance
Olympian gymnast Louis Smith absolutely floored the judges and audience when he and partner Flavia performed a routine inspired by Louis’ gymnast background in 2012, with Smith using artistic moves to carry the dance. The routine scored them a fabulous 40 and propelled the couple into the final, with Smith becoming the series winner.
Harry Judd & Aliona Vilani’s Quickstep
McFly’s Harry Judd tried his hand at dancing in 2011, and he and partner Aliona Vilani went on the win the series. His standout dance was the quickstep, and even with Vilani’s difficult choreography, the drummer performed the routine perfectly.
Kevin Clifton & Frankie Bridge’s Tango
Kevin Clifton and Frankie Bridge performed one of the most iconic dances Strictly’s ever had during the Halloween special in 2014. Dancing to Wicked’s Defying Gravity, Frankie, dressed as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the East, performed one of the most spectacular routines with Clifton, earning them both a 37 and the top spot of the leaderboard that week.
Danny Mac & Oti Mabuse’s Samba
In 2016, actor Danny Mac surprised the judges when he and partner Oti Mabuse came out and performed an energetic and fiery samba. The dance was wild enough to earn him a 40, the first time a samba had ever received a perfect score in Strictly history. The dance helped him earn a spot in the final, where he finished as runner-up.
