New DC Comics TV Show Streaming on DCU and the CW

Who Is Stargirl?

Stargirl is the superheroine alter-ego of Courtney Whitmore, an American high school student who discovers the Cosmic Staff that once belongs to Starman and inspires a new generation of heroes to reform the Justice Society of America following the death of its original members in a battle with the Injustice Society of America. Stargirl’s showrunner is executive producer Geoff Johns, who helped create the character as she appears in the Stargirl comics.

The Stargirl TV series takes place in the DC Universe, home to famous heroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and other members of the Justice League. The character of Stargirl has previously made appearances in Legends of Tomorrow and Smallville, but this new series is the first to focus on her as the main character.

Where Can I Watch Stargirl?

Stargirl is available to watch on a number of online streaming services, including DC Universe and HBO Max. It also screens on-air on The CW, home to other DC shows like ArrowSupergirl, and The Flash. In addition to these platforms, episodes are available on Amazon Prime, Google Play, Vudu, and YouTube for a per-episode fee.

Episodes premiere on Mondays on DC Universe prior to showing on The CW on Tuesdays. The episodes that premiere on Mondays feature extended scenes and behind-the-scenes footage that are not included in the Tuesday broadcast on The CW.

Who’s in the Cast?

American actress Brec Bassinger plays the titular role of Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl. Previous incarnations of the character have been played by Britt Irvin and Sarah Gray. Bassinger is joined on screen by Amy Smart, best known for her role in The Butterfly Effect, as Courtney’s mother Barbara Whitmore and Luke Wilson, known for playing Emmett in Legally Blonde, as Pat Dugan, Courtney’s stepfather, a former sidekick to Starman who moves the family from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Yvette Monreal and Anjelika Washington play Yolanda Montez and Beth Chapel, the alter-egos of Justice Society of America members Wildcat and Dr. Mid-Nite.

Recognizable actors Joel McHale, Geoff Stults, and comedian Jim Gaffigan also make recurring appearances in the series.
