Plastic Packaging

Why Customers Would Rather Buy Compostable Over Plastic Packaging

Plastics are the opposite of sustainability. Although plastic helps preserve the flavour and nutrients of the food and reduces weight for postage, the unsustainable rate of plastic consumption litters cities, oceans, and waterways while contributing to health problems. It is a massive problem people are aware of but not providing a solution to solve it. However, there is a newer solution to the degenerative effects of plastics on nature, embracing compostable packaging.

Manufacturers derive compostable packaging from plant-based or fossil fuel materials, making their disposal nature-friendly. Its end-of-life components can provide nutrients or serve as a fertiliser to earth once thoroughly broken down. But, regardless of its benefits, the term “compostable” produces plentiful community confusion. Many people believe that compostable packaging can be thrown to serve as fertilisers to earth at some time. This is not the case, though. Like any other rubbish, compostable packaging must be separated from other materials to process and dispose of it sustainably.

Four reasons why you should support compostable plastics over plastic packaging

Compostable plastics are biodegradable and found to be nontoxic. It is a futuristic material with the ability to break down completely. Not just into little pieces, it can disintegrate into compost with nothing left behind – complete sustainability. Compostable packaging can break down within three to six months of disposal, and it does not have adverse effects on human health.

A Lesser Carbon Footprint

If you are into eco-friendly products, consider supporting brands or companies using compostable packaging for disposal of products or goods. Eco-friendly product packaging is usually formed from recycled and biodegradable materials from renewable sources. These manufacturers also help reduce waste during production. They are most self-conscious about how to minimise a worldwide negative impact.

Consumers are increasingly paying attention to packaging

Around 42% of consumers are getting more satisfaction from buying products from stores which make efforts to change the world through recycled and sustainable materials. This consumer pattern also accounts for more sales since 47 per cent of consumers buying eco-friendly products have grown by 59 per cent in just a few years. The survey also confirmed that more than 50% the purchasing power is making conscious decisions to decrease the usage of disposable plastics.

Eco-friendly packaging is already a necessity

Companies and brands still not making an effort to shift to compostable packaging will face consumer dissatisfaction sooner, if not later. A high fraction of consumers are already advocating the zero-waste movement. It means more and more people are being aware of only buying brands, not using too much packaging or those who offer compostable packaging.

On the business owner side, eco-friendly packaging accounts for lesser cost because of fewer resources, reducing, reusing, recycling their inventory, and getting deals for inexpensive recycled materials. In doing so, they minimise packaging expenses at the end of the year and use it somewhere sustainable.

You can conveniently dispose of compostable packaging

Compostable packaging is easily recycled, decomposed, and it eases disposal for the consumers. The process of discarding compostable materials is also more affordable for companies. Not only will it cut costs, but it makes the product convenient for everyone, from production to end-users.

With all the benefits listed above, everyone, from business owners to consumers, must feel confident in their purchasing decisions that adopt biodegradable packaging. To aim for the safety and sustainability of the distant future, it is safe to assume that people and companies must incline towards eco-friendly solutions and virtues.
