Starburst Sour Jelly Beans [Review]

Easter candy with a sour twist

Easter is a great holiday because its candy selection is topnotch– fact. Every Easter, you have your Cadbury Cream Eggs, your Reese’s Eggs, and of course, your fair share of jelly beans around the supermarket. All are great choices, but if you’re a sweet tooth like me, you always go for the jelly beans. That’s because every company takes a little different approach to them. Over the years, I’ve ate probably 1000 individual jelly beans (maybe an exaggeration), and I don’t plan on stopping any Easter soon.

Starburst Jelly Beans - Sour

One of my personal favorites is Starburst Jelly Beans. They do it right, taking their classic flavors and reappropriating them into jellybean form. It’s almost an improvement, just because they can be less chewy than a normal Starburst. Even better, they sell them in a huge bag, that makes them great for sharing, or so you can eat 500 and then feel sick. It’s not a bad deal. If you can swoop on some after the holiday on sale, they make a great bulk candy to keep around the house.

Flavors: Tangerine, Green Apple, Watermelon, Blue Raspberry, Cherry

In particular, I like the “sour” version of the Starburst Jelly Beans (to no one’s surprise). On the whole, I don’t find them to be all that “sour” so don’t be scared about that. Your green apples and blue raspberries do their best, but the rest isn’t really sour. There are a sheer variety and uniqueness of the flavors that you don’t get with an average jelly bean pack. There’s green apple, lemon, tangerine (!), watermelon, blue raspberry, AND cherry– all your essentials and then some. It’s that signature Starburst flavor that isn’t generic feeling in the least bit.

Substituting regular orange with tangerine is an awesome move; you don’t see that one every day. So for me, that’s my favorite. All the flavors really make eating these a fun experience regardless. It’s kind of impossible to finish a whole bag in one sitting (even for someone like me), so sharing with everyone around Easter is probably the best way to go about this. Bring them into the office Monday and leave a bowl by your desk; it’ll be a good way to make friends.

A big bag for someone with a big sweet tooth. An OMG
