Giant Peep

April 30th, 2013 by Rosa

Okay, I know this is out of date since it’s so long after Easter, but it was too creative to not share. Apparently last Easter you could get a single giant marshmallow Peep! Serious Eats found one and had some fun…

Washington Post Peeps Dioramas

March 28th, 2013 by Rosa

Every year, the Washington Post runs a fun Peeps Diorama contest. This year’s winners are up, and they’re great, as usual. Check them out here. There’s also a Peeple’s Choice contest for the public’s favorite diorama. I like the meta one about the human diorama contest in Peep land, and the pink slime one.

Peeps swag – WANT

May 17th, 2012 by Rosa

I’ve never been big on eating Peeps. I rarely buy them, even on sale after the holidays, and whenever I do eat one, it’s like, “eh, still tastes just like sugar, just like last time.” I do, however, love their look and their decorating possibilities. And as I learned last week, I love me some Peeps [...]

Darrell Lea’s Soft Eating Liquorice

November 12th, 2010 by Rosa

I got these bags of Darrell Lea’s Soft Eating Liquorice as free samples via the manufacturer. According to their PR peeps, they’re Australia’s #1 soft eating liquorice. Wonder if that means there’s such thing as a hard eating liquorice? They come in four flavors – strawberry, green apple, mango, and original. I told them that [...]

Milk Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Peeps

May 3rd, 2010 by Rosa

In general, I don’t believe in buying seasonal treats when they’re actually in season. They taste great throughout the year, and they’re cheaper when you buy them in post-holiday sales! Just Born was the buzz of the candy/food blogosphere when they announced their chocolate-covered Peeps. I wasn’t going to review them since Easter is long [...]

Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews – Original Dark and Milk Chocolatey

April 28th, 2010 by Rosa

Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews used to be a mostly regional treat. When Just Born (most famous for their Peeps) bought them in 2003, they greatly expanded where it was sold. I found my bags at a dollar store here in Rochester. Peanut Chews are peanuts in caramel and coated in a thin layer of dark or [...]

Got Leftover Peeps?

April 6th, 2010 by Rosa

If you have leftover Peeps from your Easter baskets, or if you’ve stocked up on them in post-Easter candy sales, why not turn them into Peepshi (Peeps sushi), Peeps Krispie Treats, or make them into a sandwich? Or save them for next year’s Washington Post Peeps Diorama Contest. This year’s crop of winning entries was [...]

True Confections by Katharine Weber

February 4th, 2010 by Rosa

I was surprised to get an email from Katharine Weber, asking if I’d like a free copy of her latest novel, True Confections. After all, I specialize in writing about candy, not books. True, I’ve referenced Steve Almond’s Candyfreak, but that’s nonfiction and very candy-centric. I assumed that in Ms. Weber’s novel, about protagonist Alice [...]

January 29th, 2010 by Rosa

Today, y’all get the latter half of my take on Cybele’s list of the 110 Essential Candies for Candivores. In case you missed it, the first half of the list posted last Friday. I’ve bolded what I’ve tried before and sprinkled comments and photos throughout, after the jump.
