Via Lifehacker, suggestions that eating a few marshmallows can help ease the pain of a sore throat. I am dubious, though the idea that the gelatin is doing some of the work may explain why Jello is considered quintessential hospital food.
I also take issue with the idea that throat lozenges taste bad. Some of them are practically candy already!
I usually love Lifehacker, but the gee-gosh-a-rooney information that marshmallow (the herb) is indicated for sore-throats is not news. However, modern marshmallows don’t actually contain any marshmallow root. Anyway better than the marshmallow tea; if you are genuinely stricken are Thayer’s Slippery Elm Throat Lozenges http://www.thayers.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1 Not candy at all, though strangely mucilaginous and actually a little gross those a really effective.
If your throat is just tickly and what you really want is a treat nothing tops a cherry Luden’s. I agree with you, not icky at all and basically candy.
