Pretzel M&M’s + and Giveaway!
May 21st, 2010 by Rosa
Pretzel M&M’s are the newest addition to the M&M’s lineup. Unlike many of the other M&M’s varieties that I’ve reviewed in the past, these look to be a semi-permanent, non-limited edition addition. I got to try them out for free via the NCA and also via some M&M’s PR people.
Please note the cute and clever pretzel X-ray. There are only 150 calories per bag, but my bag only had 16 M&M’s. They are, however, significantly larger than regular M&M’s.
These guys are irregularly sized spheres, each with a little pretzel nugget in the center, which is then surrounded by a thin layer of M&Ms milk chocolate and coated with the M&M’s candy shell.
The bag called them “crunchy, salty, sweet”, and that’s just what they were. Each one packed a substantial crunch, partly from the candy shell but mostly from the pretzel nugget inside.
The pretzel brings a salty hit to the treat which lingers after the M&M is gone. The chocolate is mostly just sweet in the back of the throat. It contrasts well with the starchy saltiness of the pretzel.
At first, I found them a bit too dry, and they made me miss the airiness of the now-defunct crispy M&M’s. But that dryness made me want to pop a second as a chaser, and then a third, and before I knew it, the whole bag was gone.
Pretzel M&M’s are sneakily poppable, thanks to a winning combination of sweet and salty. An OM!
If you’d like to try them for yourself, they’re slowly being released around the country. M&M’s has a Facebook app to help you track where they’ve been spotted (if you’re not scared by all of Facebook’s privacy craziness).
OR you can try to win some free bags via me, via the M&M’s PR people. Just leave a comment here telling me which is your favorite variety of M&M’s by midnight on Friday, May 28th, EST. I’ll randomly select 2 commenters to win 2 free bags each! Good luck!
Edit 05/30: This contest is now closed. Congratulations to Maureen and Stephen, who were randomly selected as the winners!

I too miss Crispy M&Ms. I really enjoy coconut, and I think the pretzel version are great as well.

Oh, man. I love M&M’s.
I would have to say I am a fan of the classic plain M&Ms most, followed by Peanut. I do miss the Crispy ones, though. They were super awesome.

My favorite m&ms used to be the crispy ones! I would pop a bag of kettle corn and add a few to the mix and it was the best combo! My favorite of the available is the peanut m&ms for sure! Great giveaway! Thanks!

Peanut Butter. Just love them.

So far, the peanut butter. Second is dark chocolate. Third, crispy. But I have a feeling these will take first.

my favourite m&m has to be the good old peanut version, followed closely by the crispy.

LOVEE coconut m&ms

I prefer the original crispy M&Ms. I have a weird affinity for the waxy but somehow irresistible Nestle Crunch Bars, Buncha Crunch, and Krackle. Anything with crisped rice will make me happy I suppose (especially rice krispie treats. mmmm.) The crispy M&Ms were a great interpretation. However, the very last bag I ever purchased was at a penny candy store in Pennsylvania, and the “crunchy” interior was quite stale and seemed inedible. I contacted Mars via telephone about this (I take my candy seriously) but was never treated with a serious attitude and nothing came of it…most likely because I was about 12 or 13 at the time.
Anyway, I’ll consider this a step in the right direction because my girlfriend adores anything with pretzels and chocolate.

Pretzel M & M’s are the single greatest accomplishment of modern man. We sell them by the truck-load at our record store in Atlanta.

My favorite is peanut butter. Something about the smooth saltiness and the chocolate with the crunchy shell works unbelievably well. Second favorite? Crispy! I miss them! They were so much fun to eat. Third is kinda gross because no one else seems to like them, but…anyone tried the PB&J M&Ms? Soooo tasty and nostalgic. Classic M&Ms probably take a fourth spot for me. So munchable!
These may take classic’s spot on my list, though…I love chocolate-covered pretzels. Now that they’re in an M&M version, I am in trouble. I will buy these by the boatload. On the opposite end, I’m not terribly fond of the peanut ones (I don’t really like nuts) and I’m allergic to coconut, so I’ve never had that version.

I miss the crispy as well, they were definitely my favorite.

what’s one of my favorite snacks: popping plain m&m’s and salty pretzels into my mouth at the same time. no joke. so these m&m’s were clearly made for me, thank you !
as for my favorite, nothing will ever top the original plain m&m’s. but then again, i haven’t tasted the pretzel ones yet…. ! sadly not quite as accessible here in switzerland. hope to find them for sure.

Plain are my favorite. Lay them on a plate in one layer, pop them in the microwave for 1 minute, and the outside remains crunchy while the inside is all melty. Perfection.

Peanut are the best. That perfect mix of sweet and salty, smooth and crunchy. Great for car trips or plane trips. Thanks

My favorite M&Ms are the coconut ones. They are so delicious! and, since they are hard to find, I think that increases my desire for them.

Plain ol m&ms are delicious
May 22nd, 2010 at 5:42 am
Peanut Butter, especially the ones they come out with at Easter that have even more peanut butter filling.
May 22nd, 2010 at 5:42 pm
I just tried these the other day. After taking down two bags of Rold Gold in just as many weeks, the M&Ms weren’t quite pretzel-y enough for me. Good nonetheless, though. And they definitely reminded me of crispy M&Ms.
May 22nd, 2010 at 5:44 pm
May Canadians enter? My favourite M&Ms are the dark chocolate ones.
May 22nd, 2010 at 7:08 pm
Will be sure to try these as soon as I apot them on the shelf. Love salty and chocolate together.
May 22nd, 2010 at 8:41 pm
I would say Crispy, but since they are no longer available, the Peanut Butter are by far my favorite!

I’m from the UK – am I able to enter this competition?
May 24th, 2010 at 11:49 am
Haven’t had M&Ms for awhile, but I remember liking the peanut ones the most. Then again, I haven’t really even tried most of the other varieties!
May 24th, 2010 at 5:49 pm
Yum..those sound delish! Regular M&Ms were always okay to me, but the peanut ones are the bomb!
My solution to dry Pretzel M&Ms: drink milk!

May 30th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
My husband and I are thrilled that I won. We can’t wait to try these.

My favorite are still the crispy, although the pretzel aren’t bad. My second favorite is plain. I don’t like nuts or peanut butter, so that rules out all the others. Coconut and dark chocolate are good too. They still sell crispy m&m’s in UK and Southeast Asia. I ordered a bag from Malaysia back in January and it was really good.
