Hershey’s Barbie Doll – Giveaway
April 14th, 2009 by Rosa
When I was a kid, I didn’t play with Barbies much. It wasn’t because my parents were afraid that she’d give me body image issues or anything like that (though if I had a daughter of my own, I probably wouldn’t give her Barbies for that reason) – it’s because we were too po’. My parents immigrated from China just before I was born. When I was young, we lived off my father’s tiny grad student stipend, which left little room in the family budget for Barbies. Now that we’re financially comfortable (though that financial comfort will disappear once I graduate from college and attempt to be financially independent), I’m too old for Barbies.
Or so I thought. When Mattel approached me about doing a giveaway of their new limited/collectors’ edition Hershey’s Barbie Doll, my first thought was, “I want one!” And because Mattel is so nice, I got one!
She’s “adorned with a fun and flirtatious cocktail dress in a rich milk chocolate brown, accented with twinkles of silver,” just as the press release promised. And killer shoes, which weren’t touted in the fact sheet that I got. Yes, I’ll never be able to walk en point in heels, and I’ll never have Barbie’s impossible figure, but I’m old enough to accept that and enjoy my Hershey’s Barbie for what she is – a neat collaboration between two old and beloved American institutions.
And, thanks to Mattel, I’m running a giveaway for a second doll, so that one of you can have one to enjoy as well! One randomly selected reader (U.S. only, please, unless you’re willing to pay your own shipping) will win a Hershey’s Barbie. To enter, leave a Barbie or Hershey’s related comment on this post with a valid email address by midnight on Friday, April 17th.
Good luck! And if you don’t win, you can still buy your own at Toys R Us, Hershey’s stores, select U.S. retailers, and at BarbieCollector.com .
NOTE: This contest has now closed. Winners posted here!

This is a pretty doll. My sister and I use to have tons of Barbies. My favorites were suntan barbie…you twisted the top of her head and her hair turned around and changed colors. Sounds kinda scary. lol

One year for christmas all the girls in my neighborhood got Barbi dolls. We had so much fun playing together.

I still have all of my Barbie clothes, accessories, and some of the Dolls. I always wished I would have kept one in a box to have when I got older.
My favorite Barbie memory is the Christmas I got the Barbie Fold ‘N’ Fun House (“that I built”!). I was so excited and I think I was 13.
Thank you for giving a great opportunity to win such a awesome prize.

I loved barbies growing up. I had the whole kitchen and living room set up and would sit for hours playing with them.
Now that I have a daughter she gets to enjoy them, and I get to enjoy them all over again.
This barbie is absolutely beautiful! I love the mix of barbie and Hershey’s.
Wonderful giveaway!

My four-year-old daughter and I share a love of all things Hershey. She also loves Barbies. (that we don’t really share!) I used to love Barbies too, and I have saved my two from when I was little. We are collecting them so that when she is old she will have old-fashioned dolls for her daughters. This is quite an interesting giveaway- but it’s almost as though it was sent from heaven! Hershey heaven that is.

I’ve always loved Barbies. My first Barbies were given to me by a teenage girl at our church. She had outgrown them and gave me a camper, several dolls and a shoe box full of clothes and accessories. I was so excited that year my aunt bought me a carrying case and my first new Barbie doll. She had a long pink dress on and you could curl her hair. I still remember her new doll smell
My girls have all loved Barbies, too. My youngest is really into them.
April 15th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
I used to have a ton of Barbies when I was little. My mom used to sew them the most beautiful clothes. I wish I still had them to pass along to my daughter, since I’m sure I’ll never be the seamstress my mom was.

I never had Barbies either. I’m from a large family and money was always an issue. Now I have grand daughters and love buying Barbies for them. Last year I took one grand daughter to Hershey Park, so this would be a great reminder for her! Thanks for the chance to win it! hondaray6 at hotmail dot com

In the UK we had a kind of poor man’s Barbie called Pippa who was pretty inferior. We did have real Barbies too but somehow I never got beyond Pippa. It’s ironic that a girl with Barbie’s freakish proportions could a. never exist and b. never let chocolate touch her lips. Sad eh. But still I do love those shoes…and I surely would like to have a real Barbie…
April 15th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
i never had a barbie either. i think my parents were kinda hippies and didn’t want me to be unliberated by barbie.
April 15th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
I love Barbie! When I was young I made clothes for mine. This would be great for my neice.
April 15th, 2009 at 3:25 pm

April 15th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I have two sisters and since I was the youngest I always received the hand me downs. My oldest sister had 3 barbies and she handed them down to my next to the oldest sister and then finally to me. Those dolls saw a lot of play time~! There is 10 years between my oldest sister and myself so by the time I received the dolls she was in high school and could sew so she made me all new clothes for them old dolls so I would fell like they were brand new and just for me. That’s a great memory I guess I’ll never forget. I’d love to win this one for her for old memory sake. Thanks for sharing this wonderful giveaway.

I weird fact about myself is that I never owned an actual barbie doll, I had a bunch of the other dolls… her friends, relatives, etc. but never barbie herself!
April 15th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
My sisters had Barbies, I can’t remember which ones, but they were both in 4-H, so they conned Mom into teaching them to use her Singer sewing machine so they could make some real Maine outfits for Barbie.

I was born and raised in Hershey, PA. Mr Hershey started a school for orphan boys. The chocolate company still supports the school for disadvantaged kids. My dad went to the school and later became a History Professor at the free 2 year college that Milton Hershey started for the people of Hershey. Every thing my family has today I owe to Milton S, Hershey’s generosity! He started building projects during the depression to keep the people of Hershey working. I want everyone to know what kind of person he was. The motto on his statue at the Milton Hershey School is “His deeds are his monument, his life is our inspiration.” Even my email reflects my birthplace. I may live in Michigan now but chocolate still runs in my veins!

SHE LOOKS LIKE THALIA!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:11 pm
I absolutely LOVE this Barbie! She reminds me of the famous Hershey’s Kiss, one of my favorite chocolate candies. I have a small collection of Barbies. I had some original ones but when I went to college my mom thought my cousins would get real joy out of playing with them. Since then my cousins passed them down, too. Now I just collect ones that I like. This doll would make an excellent addition. I am sure every time I look at it I’ll HAVE to Have a Hershey’s chocolate bar.
Thank you!

I like how this barbie’s face is, it’s more of a darker, more natural (realistic) coloring that I haven’t seen in barbie, though that might be because all of mine were hand me downs from the late 1980′s… I also like the ribbon around her waist that says “hershey” that is just the perfect icing on the cake, speaking in terms of confections. and she has actual earrings!
how cool!

My first visit to New York City was during the NAACP’s 100 Convention. I didn’t know Hershey’s Chocolate was blocks from Time Square, as I walked I look up and saw the Large sign HERSHEY’S my heart race, because Ilove Hershey kisses. I looked around inside the store I saw the most beautiful chocolate doll. I collect Barbie’s Dolls and/ give them to little girls whose parents can’t affort,or/ little girls who attend the after school program where I volunteer. It would mean so much to me if I could win. I could make a little girl happy.
Thank for reading. Only If I could win a Barbie Doll for each little girl.
