It's believed by some to improve the behavior of people with autism. The theory is that their intestines can't process gluten and dairy or absorb it properly or something like that. It's not an allergy thing, and those on gluten-free/casein-free diets usually want to eat normal foods. There's no conclusive proof that it makes a difference, but some parents will do anything and take whatever benefits they can get, real or perceived.

I know several parents of children with autism that may find these to be a valuable addition to the pantry and well worth the cost.

Just out of curiosity, why's that? Do children with autism often crave sweet foods, or are they often allergic to gluten or something? Or is it just harder to get them to eat healthy/non-tasty stuff?
